Africa is one continent that offers the best in everything. From being the cradle of mankind, tourism and a very beautiful nature, it has 59 countries including the island nations. It covers an area of 30,368,609 km2 the islands included. The continent is divided into four main parts. The Eastern Africa: this area offers a lot in tourism in counties like Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Then there is Western Africa, North Africa and Southern Africa that also attract a high number of visitors especially in South Africa.

Africa is endowed with plateaus in the eastern and southern parts. There is the South Africa Plateau stretches down up to South Africa. The western and eastern parts are dominated by depression of the Great Rift Valley. Through a volcanic activity that occurred thousands of years ago, the Great Rift is occupied by a lot of water bodies. Some are fresh water bodies and others alkaline. It forms the Great Lakes of Africa that include Lake Nakuru, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Edward, Lake Albert, Lake Kivu and many others.


Africa is a region of mountains. There is the great Mount Kilimanjaro that is the highest in Africa. It’s 5,889 m tall and followed closely by Mt Kenya which is 5, 184 m high. There are also beautiful ranges like the Ruwenzori Ranges that are around 5,060 meters tall. In Ethiopia there are Ethiopian Highlands – this is a mass of mountains that form the largest continuous area of hills in the continent. The shortest surface rises, 1,500 m while the highest is around 4,900m.
