Nairobi, a modern cosmopolitan city is one of the largest and most interesting cities in Africa. Its greatness goes beyond borders as the Safari capital of Africa. Its history dates back to 1899, when the railway constructors first camped there. That’s when the city started its journey and got its name from the local Masaai who named this part Ewaso Nai’beri ‘the people of cold water’. And that is it Nairobi was born.
Nairobi should be the city that should give you the first aroma of landing in Africa. You will not get lost as there are friendly people to guide you around and visitors are highly esteemed. There are maps than can be purchased around and you can use them as your guide. Transport around the city is easy. Board buses at the bus stops and tickets will be issued by the conductor. For taxis, go for those painted yellow, and be ready to negotiate with the driver. The reason is because the taxis are not metered.
Nairobi is secure but you will need to be extra careful. Do not display your cash everywhere or leave your expensive jewels around. Avoid carrying large sums of money as you might be exposing yourself to potential risk. There are tourists police who move around to guarantee visitors’ security, however always enquire before sending money to anyone and also do your research before purchasing anything that looks like it’s from the black market.
