Malawi boasts such an exquisite destination for bird lovers. To completely exhaust watching birds you must explore all their habitats. You can start with Lake Malawi which attracts quite a variety of water birds and on the lake itself Fish Eagles. On the rock lake shores you will observe the Black eagles Aquila. Lake Chilwa is a key locality for migrant and wintering birds and also includes a wide range of storks, herons, raptors and passerines.

Malawi’s birds can also be seen in the Shire river valley, though it has been extensively cultivated. Wildlife areas here include the Liwionde, Lengwe and Mwabwi national parks. Some of the species you are likely to set your eyes on include Giant Kingfisher, Living stone’s Flycatcher, the Motted Spinetail and others. Low lying areas of Shire valley have Mopane woodland that is home to the Red billed Hornbill. The country is also blessed with woodlands that harbors birds like the Thick billed, Racket Tailed Roller, Pale billed hornbill and other bird species.

Malawi has montane green forests which provide the greatest attraction to birders. However this scarce habitat is now declining and this is greatly endangering the live of some bird species. Also bird watchers can take a tour to the mountains. Some f the species likely to be found here are White-winged Apalis Apalis, the Shire highlands, the Green Oriole Oriolus. The names seem to be tough but for the bird lovers who will visit this part of the country are destined to understand them and have great outings.
